KPI’s should not just be a buzzword. A key performance indicator is a quantifiable measure a company uses to determine how well it meets the set operational and strategic goals.
They should be examined on a weekly basis. A recommended weekly routine is to identify one or two KPI’s and report and examine them for each role or person. Don’t chew off to much too soon. Measure something that is relevant to meeting the Critical Number.
Likewise, each employee needs to identify one Critical Number that directly aligns with the company’s Critical Number for the quarter. This will enable a clear line of sight for each and every employee. A colleague of mine used to always say, “Measure it and it will improve, measure it and report on it and it will improve faster”.
Ensuring that the senior leadership team and the whole organization fully understand the KPIs, the critical number and the priorities will lead the way to successful execution and real results.
Getting into a routine of measuring will reinforce both the end goal and the path to reaching it.
